Robin Williams & The Power of Being Unique

The recent tragic loss of Robin Williams reminds us all of the fragility of life.  Here today, gone tomorrow.  But his loss also reminds us of a life well lived.  Williams lived a life that only he could live.  He relished in his unique talents and gifts, and released them to the world.  He was who he was, and that just happened to be one of the funniest people ever.

Imagine for a minute if he had deprived all of us from his humor. Imagine if he had settled for a life of “ordinary” rather than shooting for the “extraordinary”.  His life would not have been as full, and he would not have filled us all up with the joy and laughter that was his unique genius.

When acting on your entrepreneurial tendencies, you should always make sure that you are acting within your own uniqueness.  Your own special sauce.  That is ultimately what will make you the happiest AND give you the best chance of success.

In the franchising world, many mistakenly believe that you are operating businesses in a box.  That creativity, uniqueness, authenticity, and character can’t shine through.

What a farce.

Think about the last really good experience you had a restaurant.  Was it because of the system they had or the people that surrounded you?

While the systems are necessary to make the engine run, it is the people that make the experience great.

Don’t lose yourself when buying a brand.  Just buy a brand that reflects your true and authentic self, and you will shine on your way to the top.
