Now that I have waited the appropriate month since the movie came out (I didn’t want to reveal any spoilers), I can now share with you my thoughts on the Minions movie. In the movie, the Minions are searching for the biggest, most evil boss around in order to fulfill their life’s purpose of being little evil henchman. They live for centuries serving various “bosses” throughout history and constantly look for a replacement boss whenever something catastrophic happens to the one they were serving. At one point in the movie, the Minions find themselves without a boss to serve and become depressed at their lack of purpose. It was at this point in the movie when I thought to myself: “Why don’t the Minions just be their own boss?”
You may have asked the exact same question, albeit about yourself and not the Minions, especially if you have been teetering on the idea of starting your own business or owning and operating a franchise. Making the decision to start a business or purchase a franchise is a big decision, but the following questions are helpful for starting your decision-making process:
- What do I genuinely enjoy doing every day?
- Are there any current opportunities available to allow me to do that?
- What would I have to do in order to create an opportunity for myself?
- What research do I need to do to help me make this decision?
Like the Minions, many people are constantly searching for their next boss and never contemplate the option of being their own boss. Starting a business or purchasing a franchise comes with inherent risk, but also can provide self-fulfillment and countless opportunities to those who are willing to put in the time and work necessary for success.
